Our little family has enjoyed many fun adventures as we’ve been traveling the country in our RV.
And play and relax.
Nigel, sleeping like a baby, agrees.
After a busy fun filled 6 weeks (or more…I lost track) in Florida an unexpected job for Brent’s work took us to Glenwood, Georgia.
It was pouring rain as we drove on winding roads to Piney Woods Lake Campground where, despite it being after 10 pm, we were greeted by the owner, Mr. Swinson. Mr. Swinson, whose family has owned the property since the Civil War, runs the campground with his sons who also live near the property. It’s a real family owned and operated business. Since 1987 Mr. Swinson has been holding bluegrass festivals twice a year at the campground.
The plan was to stay overnight, get up drive into nearby Dublin for Brent’s work, and then head on over to Savannah.
However, we have a funny relationship with “plan”. We just aren’t a good match. The warm spring air, nearly empty campground, quiet lake and Mr. Swinson’s hospitality called us to slow down and just be.
And we did exactly that.
We played frisbee, catch, walked around the lake, watched sunsets, and huddled together in the RV as a southern storm dazzled us with her fireworks. We don’t typically get much lightening in southern California so it was real show. Albeit a bit of a frightening show.
Sunday morning, Mr. Swinson invited us to his church. We cleaned ourselves up and headed to the little picturesque Southern Baptist Church named White Springs. The congregation, small like the town, ran the service as if it were a friendly family get together. It was our first time attending a Southern Baptist service and I couldn’t think of a more perfect experience than the one we had at White Springs.
Our simple southern Sunday morning was completed with some Sharky’s country cooking in the little town Alamo. Three words: banana cream pudding.
Monday morning we took one last walk around Swinson Lake before hitting the road feeling refreshed and ready for the adventure to continue.
