  • I’m soooooooo very proud of this guy! Not only is @langweilig.noah a loving and kind young man but he has worked extremely hard this year. He just finished (well almost he has a few homeschool classes left) his sophomore year playing Bert in Mary Poppins and earned 12 college credits while keeping his 4.0!!!

  • These people. My hive. My herd. My heart. I’ve spent a good amount of my life fighting mental illness and battling my inner demons. These people are an example of God’s grace and love and goodness...and mystery. I’ll never ever understand how someone like me ended up surrounded and loved by such brilliant, creative, loving people. They humble me. Every. Single. Day. It’s an honor and a privilege to be their mother. Grateful beyond measure.

  • This week was one of the hardest of my life. On Tuesday, I unexpectedly lost my beloved grandfather, Twinkle Toes, aka, TT. He was one of the greatest humans I have ever met and I still can’t believe I was lucky enough to call him grandpa for 41 years. I shared this at his memorial on Friday. **Uncommon Generosity** Generosity comes in many forms. Intellectual generosity. Material generosity. Spiritual generosity. Emotional generosity. Time generosity. TT, short for Twinkle Toes, a name I gave my grandpa because I liked the way his feet looked in his slippers, was generous in all these ways and more. It’s an honor to be his granddaughter. Being a teenager is hard. Being a teenager with a mental illness is hell. TT made one of the most difficult periods of my life bearable. Not only bearable but he and GG brought joy amidst the deep pain. They were a refuge, a reflection of heaven.They were friends. In their house, I found peace and unconditional love. I will forever be grateful. When I was 17, I got the “bright” idea to go to Mexico to visit a boy I had met on a cruise. I was determined to go. TT realizing how determined I was got the idea to go with me. He wanted to know I was safe. For two weeks, he, GG, and I explored Mexico City visiting museums, the ballet, historical sites, and hung out with my “boyfriend”. Just last month, we were reminiscing about that trip. I was shocked by how much he remembered...he remembered more than me. He even remembered the beautiful glass curtain at the ballet theatre that I had long forgotten. He also confessed, over 20 years later, he didn’t really want to go…but he did. He went because he loved me. I’m not the easiest person to love. I know this. I tend to be strong willed, opinionated, intense, and, what some might call, bossy. I’m often self conscious about these personality traits but never around TT. Around TT all I felt was love and acceptance and in the presence of his love and acceptance my defense mechanisms melted away. Not once have I questioned his love for me. In a very real way, he showed me the love of Christ. And it wasn’t just me…(continued in comments)
